Hospital Pictures

July 31, 2001

From 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. July 30th, Carissa was in pain and found out at 10 a.m. when she went to the doctor, that she was having contractions, meaning the babies were coming.

She was checked into the hospital and stayed overnight, but the pain became unbearable again on the morning of the 31st, and so the doctors said they will have to induce labor.

She called her mother in Texas at 9 a.m. who rushed to make the 10:30 plane to Vegas and was due to arrive 2:20 p.m.

In the meantime, here are some pictures that were taken from noon until about 2 p.m.

Carissa was put in room 711, ironically her birth weight and Mario's birthdate.

The doctors said they would try to wait until Carissa's mother arrived.

However, when Carissa's mother arrived, the process was already started. She was 5 minutes too late.

The baby boys came at 3:26, 2 lbs. 8 oz. (Kaiden), which was a normal birth, but the epidural had worn off by then and soon the second baby's heart rate decreased so they had to do a C-Section in a hurry, and poor Carissa didn't have any medication to stop the pain, which she describes as very painful. Mario was there to hold her hand, but he could hardly stand her pain. The second baby came at
4:11 p.m., 1-3/4 lbs. (Kane)

Carissa is expected to spend at least 5 more days in the hospital, while the babies are in intensive care and will be watched around the clock. The first 72 hours are the most critical, however, the first week is the worst. From then on they should get stronger each day. They were 30 week babies and will probably spend the next 7 weeks in incubators.

Carissa's mother and brother Colby, who flew in from Texas, and Mario's mother Lorraine went to the hospital after the babies were born, but could not obtain permission to see the little tykes. Because they are in the special care unit, only the mother and father are allowed to see them.

So, Carissa was moved from her recovery room to another room, but on the way, she was wheel-chaired with Mario into the special care room and saw the babies.

Then Carissa's room was not ready, so she was put into a humongous single room next door ~ a suite. The kids who were with us called it a gangster room. It has a sofa, end tables, lamp, tv and her bed.

Carissa's mother and Mario will be taking turns staying with her at all times, even overnight. Her mother is staying the first night as she hasn't seen her for a long time. Mario stayed overnight on Monday, the 30th.

Carissa's Mom, Judy, who flew in from Texas the morning of the day the babies were born only to find out she was 5 minutes too late to see Carissa before delivery.
These pics were tough to get as Judy doesn't like her pictures taken.

Carissa's brother, Colby just after he wrecked Carissa's little pickup truck, taken to same hospital for stitches on his face. Truck was totalled, but today, August 3, Colby and Daddy bought the kids another car. They needed a 4-door car rather than a little pickup truck. They have a family now.

The kids say thanks for all the emails!

Now we need your prayers to help the little babies.
